about

Surprise! Here's a FREE Arcanum album from Tree and I! Recorded live and acoustic from various places - and we also threw on a couple studio recordings of cover songs, just for fun. This FREE album includes live covers of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Kansas, as well as an Alanis Morisstte/Duncan Sheik mash up and a Melanie Safka song recorded in the studio. We also dug up a rare and very different live acoustic recording of Cold Machine from our first album, "The Spoken Scream" (one of my favorites from that era).

Thank you so much and there will be A LOT OF NEW ARCANUM MUSIC COMING VERY SOON, so please look out for us! Thank you!!!

A note from Tree:
These songs a collection of live tracks we've done over the years. Like the live moments on radio. With us, you get the Live, without the schtick. We've performed these songs for years. The song "I Don't Believe In Tapes" is a mix of "I Don't Believe In You" by Duncan Sheik and "Tapes" by Alanis Morissette. I found that the two songs seemed to be written in the same place and fit together perfectly. In this sort of mashup, the mix of self doubt from "Tapes" and the line "We don't believe in you" from Duncan Sheik give a number of ways to consider the narrative. Is the self doubt being soothed and rejected or are people not believing in you, like negative remarks from parents and bullies?
"The Saddest Thing" is a song written by Melanie Safka from her 1971 album "The Good Book". I sang to this song when I was five years old. I loved the drama. Now, of course, I feel it's true implications.
From "Wild Horses" to "Dust In The Wind", it's a work simple melancholy. Enjoy the mood.

A note from Brett:
Tree and I used to play these songs at open mics way back in the day when we were first starting. Some random memories:
- I remember we made a sweet little girl cry when we played "Wild Horses". Actually, I'm sure it was Tree's perfect and emotive vocal (as usual) that made her feel so moved.
-"Dust In The Wind" used to be our "revenge song" when we felt as if the crowd did not like us - this happened more than I'd like to admit! Can you imagine how much they disliked us after we played our sincere and dramatic version of this song? We reveled in their disdain. If they didn't like us, they may as well really hate us!
-"You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" was one of the first songs we ever played together.
-this version of "Cold Machine" was inspired by one of our favorites, Suzanne Vega, with the clapping bit Tree did.
-Tree suggested the mashup of "Tapes" from Alanis Morissette and "I Don't Believe In You" from Duncan Sheik (two more of our favorite artists) because he knew they would go well together. I believe he was right!
-The addition of the indifferent crowd effect on "The Saddest Thing" was influenced by an old Eurythmics video we saw that had them playing acoustically in a bar with nobody paying attention.
Playing these songs live with Tree was always fun and let's hope we can do more!
